When you are planning for a booked surgical birth
Many women are worried that they will go into labour before their booked elective section. If you do go into labour, phone me. We will head into hospital for assessment and if you are in labour they will arrange for surgery. This often happens right away and occasionally it is delayed a few hours until morning.
When a surgical birth is booked at Waitakere Hospital I always plan to attend. However, the hospital staff are responsible for your care during a surgical birth so if another woman is in labour I am obliged to provide that labour care. If your section is going to be at North Shore Hospital the staff there will provide your care throughout.
Elective sections are generally performed close to 40 weeks of pregnancy. You can expect a phone call from hospital staff to advise the date about a week prior.
We still need to make a note of some preferences for your birth and I need you to complete the postnatal depression screen again please (click the PND screen button below). Then complete and submit the form below well before your birth planning appointment (usually around 31 weeks).
